Choose which fields need direct controls

The source describes a slicer as a visible way to filter a table, using a country field as an example. Select the table, use Insert, Slicer, and choose the relevant fields from the list. A separate slicer is created for each field. The result provides a recognizable control instead of requiring readers to discover a less obvious filter setting inside a header menu.

Keep the control proportionate to the report

Slicers can be resized and restyled, but their main purpose is to make selection and the current filter state understandable. Add only the controls the analysis needs, and check how they affect the table when different buttons are selected. A clear filter can make a shared workbook easier to explore without asking its author for help. Appearance should support that role, with field labels and selections remaining easy to read.
