Separate the total from the qualifying conditions
SUMIFS calculates a total only for entries meeting the stated conditions. The source describes a sum range followed by one or more criterion-range and criterion pairs. Conditions can concern numbers, text, or dates, making the function useful for reports with several filters. Begin by identifying the quantity that should be added, then write the conditions that determine whether each corresponding record belongs in the total.
Compare the syntax before switching functions
SUMIF and SUMIFS do not place their arguments in the same order. SUMIF may omit a separate sum range when the tested values are also the values to add; SUMIFS starts by naming the total range explicitly. Check those differences instead of making a superficial name change. Verify a small sample of qualifying records and keep the ranges consistent, so the result reflects the intended records rather than a displaced set of values.
